GNM, which stands for General Nursing and Midwifery, is a diploma program spanning three years, commonly referred to as GNM Nursing. This programcaters to individuals aspiring to pursue a profession in Clinical Nursing. The GNM course is divided into three years of academic instruction, followed by amandatory six-month internship. Internship opportunities can be found in various healthcare settings, including nursing homes, hospitals, and even privatemedical establishments. In various courses, a breakdown of 25% internal assessment and 75% annual university examination is observed. For Nursing course participants, aprerequisite for examination eligibility is securing a minimum of 50% in internal assessment and maintaining an 80% attendance in theory classes.

Practical

In all courses, the evaluation consists of 50% internal assessments and a final university exam accounting for the remaining 50%. To be eligible for the final university exam, students must maintain an 80% clinical attendance and achieve a minimum of 50% in their overall internalassessment marks. Advancement to the next academic level is contingent on passing the exams and achieving 100% attendance in the practical B.Sc.Nursing subjects.

Admission Requirements

Minimum education eligibility criteria for GNM admission:

To be eligible for admission to the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program, candidates must have completed their 10+2 education with Englishand should have secured a minimum of 40% marks in the qualifying examination and English individually from any recognized board. While candidatesfrom State Open Schools recognized by the State Government and the National Institute of Open School (NIOS) recognized by the Central Governmentare also eligible, a background in Science is preferred.
Alternatively, candidates may be eligible if they have completed their 10+2 education with English and obtained a 40% score in a vocational ANM coursefrom a school recognized by the Indian Nursing Council.
Another pathway to eligibility is having completed 10+2 with English and securing 40% marks in the Vocational Stream-Healthcare Science from arecognized CBSE board/State/Centre.
Candidates who are registered as ANM with a passing mark are also eligible for GNM admission.
Reservation policies will be in accordance with the guidelines set by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and State Government.
Admission to the GNM program is conducted once a year.
Students applying for GNM admission must meet the minimum age requirement of 17 years, as of December 31st of that year. There is no upper age limitfor ANM candidates or those pursuing LHV (Lady Health Visitor) courses.
Additionally, students seeking GNM admission should meet the necessary medical fitness standards.
