What is GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery)?

GNM is a 3-year diploma program in nursing with an additional 6-month internship. It focuses on providing the essential knowledge and skills to care for individuals, families, and communities. The program is approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and prepares students for a career in both government and private healthcare sectors.

Eligibility Criteria for GNM Nursing

To apply for the GNM program at Adarsh College of Nursing, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Educational Qualifications:

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.

  • Must have studied English as a compulsory subject.

  • Preferred stream: Science (Biology); however, students from Arts stream with Health Science/Vocational subjects are also eligible.

  • Minimum aggregate marks: 40% (Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC as per government norms).

Age Limit:

  • Minimum age: 17 years (on or before 31st December of the admission year).

  • Maximum age: 35 years (as per INC guidelines).

Medical Fitness:

  • All applicants must be medically fit and will be required to submit a health certificate from a registered medical practitioner at the time of admission.

Duration of the GNM Program

  • Course Duration: 3 Years + 6 Months Internship

  • Type: Full-Time Residential/Day Scholar

  • Instruction Medium: English & Hindi

Course Structure:

  • Year 1: Fundamentals of Nursing, Anatomy & Physiology, First Aid, Nutrition, Microbiology

  • Year 2: Medical-Surgical Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Communicable Diseases

  • Year 3: Pediatric Nursing, Midwifery, Community Health Nursing

  • Internship: Supervised hands-on training in affiliated hospitals
